Observational studies objectively benchmark existing space usage and working practices. They can also be used to highlight how the different job functions interact. Electronic questionnaires provide a subjective appreciation of staff matters arising from their workplace environment.
We identify in linear meters the types and quantities of filing, storage and equipment currently used by each person and department. The filing survey will identify current filing/retrieval methods, current archiving practices and future space requirements. An audit of essential stand-alone equipment such as photocopies, fax machines and printers is also undertaken so that the usage of these items is fully considered within the new layout.
