This Office design detailing stage of a Red Square commercial office interior design project is undertaken after the production drawings have been completed, planning permission, if required, has been granted and outline build costs have been determined. Design detailing is undertaken in conjunction with drawing up materials and product specifications.

What is office design detailing?

Design detailing includes the production of accurate scaled drawings that can be used by specialist suppliers, for items such as structural glass and bespoke joinery. Plans show the general layout of office space, ceiling and raised floor boxing, office partitioning, as well as
the location of toilets and washrooms. Detailed drawings will be supplied that show typical elevations and close-up detailing.

The purpose of office design detailing is to enable accurate costings to be calculated. It also helps maintain exacting construction and design standards throughout the scheme.

Red Square produces an office design-detailing package, which correctly interprets the agreed concept. This is essential before implementation work starts and may include some of the following:

• detailed drawings - for building control
• working drawings - showing the general build (material junctions/ surrounds/flash gaps) ceilings (lighting/air conditioning/smoke & fire detectors), joinery (doors/storage/reception desks), electrics (floor boxes) voice & data and co-ordination drawings (for specialist suppliers)
• specification and scope of works documents - this is a written description of the required implementation works, including performance specifications
• quantity surveying - the quantity surveyor appointed to the team uses this production information to set the final project cost
• tender package - to include a full set of plans, materials and product specifications and scope of works which we use to invite tenders from specialist suppliers or provide to clients as part of a tender support package.
